A Guide to Network Marketing
Network marketing has been described as personal growth disguised as a business.
What is Network Marketing?
Network Marketing simply means marketing through a network. Instead of using traditional media to sell products and services network marketers create networks of people to distribute products and services and they get paid very well to do so. There are different types of Network Marketing, the two most common are MLM which stands for Multi Level Marketing, and there is Direct Sales. MLM has been looked at negatively by some. Most of this comes from unprofessional distributors wrongfully promoting network marketing programs as a get rich quick scheme. There are also pyramid schemes that operate similar to MLM but those are different than legitimate MLM companies that produce and distribute real products and services.
Why should you get involved in Network Marketing?
In the video below Robert Kiyosaki author of the best selling book Rich Dad, Poor Dad: What the Rich Teach Their Kids About Money–That the Poor and Middle Class Do Not! explains some of the reasons why he recommends that anyone interested in business should get involved in network marketing. If you have never read the book Rich Dad Poor Dad I suggest you stop what you are doing right now get the book and read today. Not I’ll do it later, I mean right this second. If you can’t do it this second then at least make sure you read it before making another single decision in your life.
As Robert was saying in the video, one of the great things about being involved with network marketing is you will learn important business skills. These skills are not only important but required if you plan to succeed in business. Probably the most important skill you will be required to have in business is the ability to sell. No matter what it is that you are doing if you can’t sell someone your product service or idea then whatever you have is worthless.
If you have some idea in your head that you don’t want to sell anything then you are doing yourself a disfavor. If you have some image of something like a “sleazy used car salesman” going through your head when you think of the idea of sales then you have some negative programming you need to deal with. If you are going to be successful in business you are going to have to get used to the idea of selling. If not then I suggest you just make peace with where you are at now and stay there because chances are things probably won’t change much for you.
Being good at sales is being good at persuasion. The stereotypical used car salesman image is actually the opposite of what you should be aiming for. Most people can see right through that and it doesn’t work. Real persuasion is more subtle and much more effective.
There is a saying, “how you do anything is how you do everything”. With Network Marketing you get to work with successful people who will teach you how to grow and become the kind of person you want to be. Being successful at anything is a learned skill. In a good Network Marketing organization you will have plenty of people who have gone through what it takes to become successful at your fingertips eager and willing to assist you one on one until you succeed.
One of the great things about what you will learn through Network Marketing about business will transfers to the rest of your life. What helps you become successful in business will help you become successful in anything you do. These skills will transfer to anything whether it be relationships with others, investing, parenting, sports, music, hobbies, charitable causes or even attracting a mate.
Why learn these skills through Network Marketing?
Network Marketing companies are such great places to learn these skills because they don’t discriminate. It doesn’t matter where you come from or what kind of background or experience you have. Another alternative would be to get a job that will teach you business skills and put you in a position with the right people to become a great success. But in order get into that position you have to somehow convince an employer that you are they right person for the job. Did you catch that? You would have to SELL the employer the idea of hiring you instead of hiring one of the other applicants. That’s just another example of how getting very far in life requires you to have the ability to sell.
A Network Marketing organization is different because anyone can join. All you have to do is sign up, some of them for free and you can instantly surround yourself with successful people and all the training you will need. It’s in the best interest of these people to train you and help you succeed because when you succeed that’s when they get paid.
Why are some people so negative about Network Marketing?
One of the reasons there is some negativity about Network Marketing is because it is so easy to join. Because of this there are too many people who join who have no business joining. People with a lottery mentality or people who think they are going to get rich quick. These people sign up maybe place a few ads and maybe make a few phone calls and when they don’t make any money they complain and say they have been scammed.
Then there are the ones who sign up with the right intentions. They work really hard at it for a while but eventually quit because they don’t see the success they were expecting. Even though they may have put in a great effort they were most likely bringing their old habits and beliefs into their work. They may have been working hard and learning the business but inside them nothing has changed. They are still bringing the same emotional state into the business that wasn’t getting them anywhere before they joined.
That’s one of the greatest things about Network Marketing. In order to succeed it forces you to leave behind your baggage and transform into a highly effective person. Network Marketing and business in general is like a great big mirror that will show you what you are truly made of. It tears down the facade that most people hide behind. When many people look in that mirror all their negative emotions and programming comes up and they often don’t like what they see. So instead of facing their true selves and the emotions that it brings up they instead get angry with Network Marketing and often say these exact word, “I got scammed”.
The people who are able to look in that mirror and except what it reveals to them are the ones who have a great chance of succeeding. They are the ones who thank the industry for showing them all the things about them that are holding them back in life. Once this industry shows you what you are really made of then it will help you change the things about yourself that you don’t like and transform into what you want to become.
This process can seriously take you out of your comfort zone and it takes a lot of courage to transform into a the person who you want to become. So what if it takes you several months or a year or 3 or even 5 years to become successful? Who cares how long it takes because once you get there do you have any question that you will be happy that you did it?
Now don’t get me wrong, this is a very simple business. The difficulty that most people have is getting out of their old habits and out of their own way of succeeding.
